Building Maintenance and Health & Safety Manager, Nicosia – BMHS/03/24

On behalf of our client, an established Foundation, we are currently looking to recruit a Building Maintenance and Health & Safety Manager for their team in Nicosia.

The Building Maintenance and Health & Safety Manager oversees the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of company facilities while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. This role involves developing maintenance procedures, managing health and safety plans, conducting regular safety inspections, and ensuring that all building systems operate efficiently and safely. The manager works closely with engineering staff and external service providers to create a safe and well-maintained working environment.

Position’s Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee health and safety policies and procedures to minimize risks to staff and visitors.
  • Manage maintenance staff, contractors, and external service providers.
  • Plan and oversee building refurbishments, renovations, and other construction projects.
  • Prepare and control the annual maintenance budget and ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain records of inspection, maintenance activities, and repairs.
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring and training of auxiliary and security personnel.
  • Perform in house employee training on the safe operation, use and maintenance of equipment and building systems.
  • Maintain all the Foundation’s areas in accordance with all municipal and state building regulations and museum standards.
  • Work with the Management to develop and maintain proper procedures to ensure the safety of the Collections.
  • Respond to emergency situations or incidents to ensure immediate repairs and minimal disruption.
  • Report any unusual findings or safety hazards immediately to the Management.
  • Coordinates and assists internal / external customers during events and programmes.
  • May undertake special projects as requested by the Management.
  • Assists and coordinates for the set up of temporary exhibitions and events organized regularly.

Position’s Requirements

  • University Diploma/Degree on Mechanical Engineer or any other relative diploma.
  • Proven experience as a Building Maintenance Manager, Facilities Manager, or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of building systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and construction/maintenance practices.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and the ability to develop and implement safety policies.
  • Professional certification in health and safety is highly advantageous.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Fluent in Greek and English languages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills. Manage and motivate the maintenance team.
  • Good problem-solving skills and decision‐making abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and facility management software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff, contractors, and external parties.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail for conducting thorough inspections and identifying safety hazards.
